Young Ideas for Empowering Women

Together with Turkish Ministry of Family and Social Policies and Intel, KAGİDER launched the “Young Ideas for Empowering Women” project on December 27th, 2012 at the Ceylan Intercontinental Hotel.

The project aims to mobilize the youth to develop innovative solutions to tackle the issues women face in Turkey. The program encourages the youth between the ages 18-30 to develop technology supported solution proposals and social entrepreneurship projects to address the problems women face living in the areas with highly limited access to resources. As a part of the program, workshops will provide youth with examples and knowledge on how to develop ideas, generate innovative and feasible solutions, and implement solutions through use of technology.

In the period of the project, two day long ideation camps in which participants go through the learning process to ideate, innovate and imagine social entrepreneurship by creating innovative solutions to identified problem, were fulfilled in Kütahya, Erzurum, Sakarya and Gaziantep. Approximately 2500 people applied for the camps. In each ideation camp, workshops were organized and through these workshops, young people developed projects and presented them to the jury. The jury made a selection of three projects in every city and awarded the selected projects. Mentoring process has started to encourage and motivate the young participants in developing their projects.

From March 10 to 11 2015 KAGIDER in partnership with the Ministry of Family and Social Policies General Directorate of the Status of Women and Intel Turkey brought together youth from the Young Ideas for Empowering Women Project from Trabzon, Adana, Sakarya and Gaziantep to Istanbul.

The two-day training program was made up of project groups from Ashoka Turkey including Social Entrepreneurship, Social Media Management and financing for social entrepreneurs. The training program took up one full day producing analysis’ on current projects.

The second day, project groups visited the KAGIDER office where KAGIDER member, Esra Tekil, provided guests with an overview of the current project. Following this overview KAGIDER members of the European Women Entrepreneur Mentorship Network came together to present the mentor’s projects and the current working partnerships of the network.
