KAGİDER was in Parliament to discuss CEDAW Turkey’s final report

Within the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), KAGİDER was represented in Parliament for the final report which is prepared in the process of Turkey’s sixth review on September, 16th.

State Minister for Women’s and Family Issues Selma Aliye Kavaf and General Manager of General Directorate on the Status and Problems of Women (KSGM) Leyla Coşkun listened NGO’s opinions and suggestions.

The women’s organizations noted that since 2005 they have been demanding the removal of discriminatory articles of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK), specifically those addressing “honor crimes,” but report little progress in this field. The NGOs also repeated their calls to amend civil law so that women do not have to take their husband’s last name at marriage.
