Sanem Oktar, spoke at the first session entitled “Improvement of Regulatory Framework for Entrepreneurs”. She emphasized the importance of public procurement for development of women entrepreneurship. Oktar said: “Public bodies should buy more from women entrepreneurs. Public procurement accounts for over 30 % of GDP in developing countries. However, women entrepreneurs have been largely excluded from this sizeable market due to lack of access to information on bids, understanding of procedures and ability to meet requirements. To be effective, governments must tailor their procurement reforms accordingly.”
