Happy December 5th Anniversary of Women Obtaining the Right to Vote and Be Elected!

We have to ensure equality between men and women in politics!

Today, we celebrate the 89th anniversary of women being given the right to elect and be elected as parliamentarians in our country. This right was recognized with the amendment made to the Constitution and Election Law on December 5, 1934. The last obstacle to women's participation in politics, who were given the right to participate in municipal elections, then to become headmen in villages and to be elected to councils of elders, was eliminated exactly 89 years ago.

It is clear that the progress we have made towards women's participation in politics in the 90 years of the last century is insufficient. However, it is very important for our future that women are represented under equal conditions and proportions with men in politics, as in all areas of life. It is only possible for our country to realize its potential in terms of democratic development and sustainable development by including the perspective of women, who constitute half of our population, in our politics and decision-making processes at equal rates with men.

As KAGİDER, the Turkish Women Entrepreneurs Association, which operates to popularize women entrepreneurship in our country, we announce that we will continue our fight for the empowerment of women in all areas, including politics, with determination.
